
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Portage Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:49 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a monitored fire alarm in a five-storey commercial and office building in the 700 block of Portage Avenue.
When crews arrived on scene they encountered heavy smoke coming from the building. Due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with a large structure, a second alarm was called which increased the number of apparatus on scene. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 11:44 a.m.
Occupants of the building safely self-evacuated. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time. The building suffered significant smoke, fire, and water damage.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Dufferin Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:24 p.m. on Monday, January 3, 2022, on-duty Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) members alerted the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) to a fire in a two-storey townhouse complex in the 200 block of Dufferin Avenue.
When WFPS crews arrived on scene they encountered heavy black smoke coming from the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 2:51 p.m. The fire was contained to the suite of origin.
WPS members assisted with the evacuation of occupants prior to the arrival of WFPS crews. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters located three cats in the suite and brought them to safety. The City of Winnipeg’s Animal Services Agency responded to the scene to provide care to the animals.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no damage estimates are available at this time.
