Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to three structure fires

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to three fires since last evening.
At 9:05 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant house in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue.
At the scene, crews saw smoke and flames coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside until it was safe to enter the house to attack from the inside. The fire was under control at 9:45 p.m.
Crews searched the house to ensure no one was inside. No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

At 12:22 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a multi-unit residential building in the 500 block of Furby Street.
At the scene, crews saw large flames and heavy smoke coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside. Crews continue to work at this location and are expected to be on scene into the morning. The building is expected to be a total loss.
No injuries have been reported. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team responded to the scene to assist ten residents in finding temporary alternative accommodations. Two neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution.
Furby Street is closed in both directions between Sargent Avenue and Ellice Avenue.
At 5:41 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two storey apartment building in the 100 block of Quelch Street.
At the scene, crews saw smoke and flames coming from the building. Crews attacked this building from the outside using aerial ladders. Crews continue to work on scene and are expected to be there into the morning.
No injuries have been reported. Residents in a nearby building are being evacuated as a precaution.
Logan Avenue is closed in both directions between Cecil Street and Vine Street until crews complete their work. Access to Weston School may be temporarily impacted as a result of this incident.
