Apiary worker

Business Information: We are a small, family owned business that has been in the honey industry for well over half a century. We currently reside and produce our products in Gunton, Manitoba.

Type of Employment: Full time – Seasonal / 7-month contract
Estimated Start Date: April 1st, 2021.

Job Description:

• Work with honey bees on a honey farm
• Harvest honey
• Detect and treat bee diseases
• Operate and maintain apiary related machinery and equipment
• Apiary work
• Write daily basic progress reports
• Feed and care for bees
• Move hives and collect honey
• Move the bees within different sites of the farm depending on the season
• Assist in making nucs

Requirements:
-Education: Not required
-Experience is an asset
-Working Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Repetitive tasks, Handling heavy loads, Physically demanding, Combination of sitting, standing, walking, Standing for extended periods, Walking, Bending, crouching, kneeling, Overtime required
-Personal suitability: Organized, Effective interpersonal skills, Flexibility, Judgement, Team player
-Work site environment: Outdoors, Hot

Salary: $12.09 to $13.09 hourly, 40 – 60 hours per week

Benefits: Disability benefits and extended medical insurance. Transportation costs covered if worker needs to relocate. Accommodation provided on a discounted rate.

Important information:
Work schedule is from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Schedule may vary depending on the weather. Flexibility on schedule is required. May have to work some Saturdays. Sundays are off.
