Assistant Farm Manager

Pitura Seeds is Western Canada’s largest family-owned pedigreed seed processing facility. With a rich 100-year history spanning three generations, the company is proud to grow and contract tens of thousands of acres of top-quality pulses, cereals, and oilseeds on a yearly basis. Located only 25-minutes south of Winnipeg, they are considered one of Manitoba’s fastest growing companies. On their behalf, we seek to hire an experienced Assistant Farm Manager to join their team.

Key Responsibilities:

Work closely with the President to develop an annual operations plan including strategies, action plan and budget.
Work closely with the Agronomy Manager on development of seeding intentions.
Conduct farm equipment maintenance as required and appropriate.
Contribute to and respect the seed plant equipment maintenance schedule and conduct appropriate maintenance as required by Operations Manager.
Develop and establish relationships with grain buyers and companies that are possible buyers of grain.
Be a proficient and skilled operator of all equipment and be prepared to assume a primary operator function when asked by President. This includes field work including spraying activities.
Develop and oversee software requirements for accurate and efficient record keeping and cropping history data.
Assist President with the sale of all grain produced on the farm including those sales to Pitura Seed Service.
Gain and understanding of grain markets and their impact on PSF profitability.

Qualifications:

Post-Secondary education in Agriculture or a related discipline.
5+ years experience in Agriculture, Farming, or Food Production.
Additional courses in business management or administration are considered an asset.
Excellent problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills.
Superb communication and interpersonal skills.
