The Health & Safety Branch is mandated to manage risks to the safety, health and well being of employees, visitors and the public arising out of the work activities performed by or on behalf of the Department. The Director is tasked with managing risks related to the Department’s infrastructure and physical assets. 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence 
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check


  • Post-secondary education related to Health and Safety or Risk Management. A suitable combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive working experience in risk management including analysis and development of policy and procedures.  
  • Experience working with committees and work groups providing technical expertise and consultative services.  
  • Experience in evidence collecting and conducting and/or co-ordinating serious incident investigations.
  • Experience in the business continuity planning processes. 
  • Experience in negotiation and dispute resolution.
  • Experience with supervision or Ability to lead.
  • Solid conceptual, analytical, decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Team building skills with commitment to create, support, and sustain an environment to enable staff to achieve results. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective, positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional verbal, written communication skills including an ability to use appropriate communication styles and methods to gain acceptance of the department’s programming or position with internal and external parties.


  • Knowledge of various Acts and/or legislation related to Occupational Health and Safety.

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Corporate Services Division, the Director of Health and Safety Management Branch is responsible for the delivery of risk management programs, business continuity planning, emergency response planning, the management of insured and uninsured claims involving damage to department property and legal liability against the department, the loss prevention/reduction program and the management of WCB claims for Manitoba Infrastructure a(MI). The Director is also responsible for the monitoring and compliance of occupational safety and health programs delivered throughout the department.
