Maple Leaf School is a dual-track, English and French Immersion School with approximately 500 students in kindergarten to grade 4. We are looking for an outstanding candidate to assume an Early Years Music Teacher position, performing Kindergarten to Grade 4 Music teaching duties. This is a term position for the school 2021-2022 year, with the possibility of extension.

The successful candidate must be a qualified teacher possessing a valid Manitoba teaching certificate or obtaining such, with training and experience in music education. The successful candidate must demonstrate a child-centred approach, an understanding of early year’s philosophy and knowledge of current Manitoba Arts curricula, as well as demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate the use of various current teaching strategies and classroom structures, thus proving their understanding and ability to implement differentiated instruction. As the primary music teacher, the successful candidate must demonstrate a willingness and ability to direct choirs and other extracurricular musical endeavours such as preparing for winter and spring concerts. The successful candidate must possess expertise and knowledge to play musical instruments that would support early years of music programming, such as recorder and piano.

S/he must have: good written and verbal communication skills; demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills; present themselves professionally, and demonstrate their ability to be a team player, functioning as part of a team and working collaboratively with teaching colleagues. The ability to converse in French and/or teach basic French is highly desired, and depending on the candidate, the opportunity also exists to teach French Immersion music classes.
