DESCRIPTION
Western School Division invites applications for the position of Operation Technician – Health & Safety Coordinator.

Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor and collaborating with the Human Resources Manager, the Operation Technician – Health & Safety Coordinator will play an integral role within the operation and health and safety administration and management system. The incumbent will work closely with the Facilities Supervisor, administrators of schools, human resources, and staff supporting the Division in administering and assisting with operational aspects of our facilities, including but not limited to assisting the Facilities Supervisor with implementing and administrating the Facility Management System, Programs, Projects and Practices that are aligned with the School Board’s priorities, Division Strategy and current operational needs. The Operation Technician – Health & Safety Coordinator takes the initiative to promote policies, initiatives, and direction of the Western School Division. The Operation Technician /Health and Safety Coordinator plays a critical role within the Division’s Health and Safety Management system and by developing, implementing and administering the Health and Safety program, updating and developing Safe Work Procedures, organizing mandatory safety training and attending specific training related to the position, providing safety orientation for new employees, investigating workplace incidents and providing reports, statistics and recommendations. S/he will position themselves as a point to contact to educate employees in regard to health and safety practices and procedures and respond in a timely manner to address health and safety issues, being able to conduct inspections and participate as a member of the Health and Safety and Accessibility committees, knowledgeable of current health and safety regulation and trends applicable to the industry to ensure that the Division complies with the current law.

The Incumbent shall exemplify strong moral values, high standards of ethical conduct, a commitment to the Division’s philosophy of education, and will demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills.
The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education or training in a related field, be mechanically inclined, complemented with 1-3 years of progressive experience in similar roles. Experience working in the public sector is a definite asset. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge in the field and experience working under pressure and dealing with complex issues in a fast-paced environment with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. The incumbent must be safety cautious and be able to organize, implement and administer health and safety programs, have the ability to develop safe work procedures, conduct safety talks, workplace health and safety investigations with further communication and reports on investigations. Therefore the successful candidate must possess strong oral and written English skills. The ability to speak fluently in French will be an asset. Advanced computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and other programs and tools such as Zoom, Teams etc., is a must. The Incumbent must remain current with all applicable laws and regulations related to the position and promote and maintain positive relationships between Western School Division and its employees.
The successful applicant will be required to travel to various school locations and organizations across the province when needed. Therefore, a condition of employment is that the incumbent must possess and maintain a valid full Manitoba Class 5F driver’s license.
