Student Support Services Administrator – Competition # 2021-12
Prairie Spirit School Division is searching for an innovative and knowledgeable individual for the position of Student Support Administrator to work collaboratively with the Student Services Administrator to provide leadership and direction for student services programming and other educational initiatives within the school division to commence September 7th, 2021.
To give leadership and direction to all aspects of Appropriate Educational Programming and service within the Prairie Spirit School Division, including the direction of staff for the prioritization of referrals for specialized assessment.
Collaborates with division student services team members, school staff, students, and parents to determine appropriate and specific Tier 2-3 intervention supports for students who may be experiencing a variety of difficulties that are affecting their education and overall well being.
Promotes and guides Tier 1 prevention education initiatives (division/school/class wide) in the area of social-emotional-behavioural skill development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Without in any way restricting the generality of the foregoing, the Student Support Services Administrator shall:
a) Be responsible for the long term planning, coordination and development of student services.
b) Assist the Superintendent’s department with the recruitment and selection of staff, both teaching and non teaching, who fall under the Student Services Department.
c) Supervisory support role with clinicians as designated.
d) Be responsible for establishing and maintaining assessment and referral procedures to ensure Appropriate Educational Programming.
e) Supporting and guiding school staff and families in next steps for re-engaging students in their education, including alternative delivery of programming.
f) Be responsible for the long term planning which will lead to the establishment, maintenance and evaluation of initiatives in the area of Appropriate Education.
g) Assist schools in linking to community agencies for student programming.
h) Liaison with our First Nations partners to support students transitioning into PSSD Schools.
i) Coordinate regular meetings and professional development sessions for staff who fall within the student services department.
j) Provide support for Resource Teachers and School Counsellors and Clinicians for Appropriate Educational Programming.
k) Provide support to families to facilitate student success.
l) Collect and compile the necessary data and financial information required by the Secretary-Treasurer’s Department and Manitoba Education for the purposes of long term planning.
m) Assist in coordinating the services of outside agencies to school age children, as per Manitoba Education Guidelines.
n) Assume the responsibility for professional growth and development through attendance at educational conferences and workshops related to Appropriate Educational programming.
o) Coordination and facilitation of divisional/regional initiatives and committees as appropriate.
p) Manitoba Education Grant distribution, budget responsibilities and reporting as assigned.
q) Perform such tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent’s department.
Requirements for the position:
● Valid Teaching Certificate (Manitoba Certification Standards) and successful classroom experience
● Completion of or commitment to completing a Manitoba School Counselling Certificate or equivalent
● Experience as a School Counsellor, including strengths in the areas of Mental Health and Social Emotional Learning
● Strong knowledge of working with Provincial Services available to students and families
● Knowledge of Provincial Safe and Caring Schools Initiatives
● Knowledge of and experience working with diverse cultures
● Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
● Excellent organizational skills
● Strong knowledge of Appropriate Education in Manitoba
● Strong knowledge of curriculum and assessment (K-12)
● Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
The following would be considered assets:
● Consultative or supervisory experience; such as school administrator or department head would be considered to be an asset
● Experience working in a virtual environment, including the Google platform
This position may involve travel within and outside the division. A reliable means of transportation will be required.
