The purpose of the Environmental Approvals Branch is to:
Assess proposals for approval and consider licensing, permitting, certification, and registration decisions under provincial legislation to ensure that potential environmental impacts do not adversely impact human health and Manitoba’s environment.
Develop policies, strategies, standards, guidelines, training standards and legislation to protect human health and the environment; and support public participating in environmental decision making.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must be registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence
Undergraduate degree in an environmental-related discipline of Engineering (e.g., Civil, Chemical, Environmental, Bio systems Engineering
Extensive experience in environmental engineering including solid waste treatment and disposal, composting, and environmental impact assessments.
Ability to read construction plans and learn and work with appropriate industry software tools and technology to successfully complete assignments/projects.
Excellent written communication skills including experience writing various technical documents to support project planning and execution, with the ability to prepare responses for media inquiries and litigation matters.
Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with a variety of stakeholders, conveying technical information to non-technical audiences.
Ability to undertake independent research and develop proposals to introduce new industry innovations into department operations.
Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
Experience with Microsoft Office software, specifically Word, Excel, Access and Outlook or similar.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and develop effective working relationships at all levels, including senior management and front line staff.
Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively deliver services in a high volume and tight deadline environment
Knowledge of related acts and regulations.
Knowledge of enforcement techniques including determining compliance, compliance promotion, warnings, preparation of legal documents and giving evidence.
The Senior Environmental Engineer provides specialized engineering services encompassing advice and technical guidance, planning input and analysis, inspections, and review of engineering design and construction reports and drawings. The position is responsible for managing and processing applications for approval involving solid waste management including waste treatment and disposal and composting, to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of the engineering design of the facilities and proposed mitigation measures.
