WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes’ infielder Raul Navarro has been named the American Association’s Batter of the Week for July 25th-31st.
In six games last week, the Los Llanos, Dominican Republic native was 12-for-23 (.522) with six runs scored, two doubles, one triple, one home run, and five RBI. Entering Monday, Navarro ranks eighth in the American Association in batting average (.336), while adding 43 runs, 16 doubles, three home runs, 34 RBI, and 12 stolen bases in 60 games. The 30-year-old infielder is also riding a career-high 21-game hitting streak, which is the longest by a Goldeyes’ player since 2012. Navarro has hit safely in 51 of his 60 games played.
Now in his second season with the Goldeyes, Navarro batted .310 with two home runs, 45 RBI, and 20 stolen bases for the club in 2021. Navarro originally signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks as an international free agent in 2009, and reached the Triple-A level in 2015. Navarro was the independent Pacific Association’s Most Valuable Player in 2019 after hitting .373 with 66 runs scored and 31 stolen bases in 62 games for the San Rafael Pacifics.
Navarro joins Luis Ramirez (Pitcher of the Week May 30th-June 5th and Pitcher of the Month for June) as Goldeyes who have taken home league honours this season.
